Berkshire Nursing Families' is working to improve maternal and infant health in the Berkshires. We provide free programs and evidence-based feeding support from pregnancy through the early years of family life — so every family has the expert guidance and community they need to thrive.
Berkshire County is a federally designated medically underserved area, and for pregnant and postpartum families, the gaps in care are especially acute. Berkshire Nursing Families exists to close those gaps. We provide free, evidence-based support — from pregnancy through the early years of parenthood — including home visits, lactation consultations, perinatal mental health support, 24/7 phone and text access, and community classes and playgroups. No eligibility requirements, no insurance needed, no cost to families ever. Our work touches a significant share of the community — and the benefits extend far beyond infancy, into healthier children, stronger parents, and a more resilient Berkshire County.
Why BNF?
Care that goes where families are
Feeding crises don't wait for business hours. BNF offers around-the-clock phone and text support — no other local organization does this.
BNF comes to families anywhere in Berkshire County. In a rural area where transportation is a real barrier, meeting families where they are isn't a perk — it's essential.
BNF builds relationships before birth and sustains them through the early parenting period. This is not a one-time consult. Community support and expert care continue long after families leave the hospital.
Through a unique partnership with Northern Berkshire Pediatrics, BNF staff attend appointments alongside families. Trusted and integrated with local medical providers, we are a seamless continuation of care for families we serve.
No eligibility requirements. No income limits. No sliding-scale fees. No insurance required. Every Berkshire County family qualifies — full stop.

Let’s Work Together
We ask one question before every decision we make: what do Berkshire County families actually need? The answers have led us to home visits, driving to every corner of the county, and to the phone at 3am. It has shaped every program we run and every partnership we've built.
For over 25 years, that clarity of purpose has kept this organization focused, financially responsible, and deeply rooted in the community we serve. And as we look ahead, that question feels more important than ever. The families we support today are raising the next generation of Berkshire County — and the care they receive in those earliest months and years will shape this region for decades to come.
Investing in BNF is investing in that future. If you're looking for an organization that spends carefully, leads with purpose, and is committed to the long-term health of this community, I'd love to talk.
