What to Expect from a BNF Visit
Don’t know where to start? Feeding not going well or just unsure if it is? That is exactly why we're here. There's nothing you can tell us that will surprise us, and nothing you're experiencing that we haven't helped another family through.
We’ll Meet You Where You Are
Before Your Visit
Our consultations typically happen in your home, because that's where feeding actually happens. There's no office, no waiting room, no parking. You don't have to pack up your baby and siblings, or time anything perfectly. Just reach out and we'll be there.

During the Visit
We'll start by simply talking — about your birth experience, how feeding has been going, what's feeling hard, and what's working. Then we'll observe a feeding together, which helps us understand what's happening in real time far better than any description could.
Depending on what we see, we may do a weighted feed (a before-and-after weigh-in to measure how much milk your baby is getting), assess latch and positioning, discuss milk supply, or talk through feeding options beyond breastfeeding. Every visit is different because every family is different.
After the Visit
Before we go, we'll make sure you have a clear, realistic plan — not a list of things you're doing wrong, but a path forward that works for your baby and your life. We also provide free supplies as needed (nipple shields, feeding tubes, diapers, etc.). We may follow up with more resources depending on what we talked about. We communicate with your pediatrician (with your consent) to help track weight changes, too. We're available after the visit too. Questions that come up at 2am are exactly what our support line is for.
Do I have to be breastfeeding?
No. We support families with all feeding methods — breastfeeding, pumping, formula, combination feeding, and if your plan changes, too. If it involves feeding your baby, we can help.
Is there a cost?
Never. Every BNF service is completely free for Berkshire County families, with no eligibility requirements and no insurance needed.

If something comes up during a visit that we think deserves a doctor's attention, we'll tell you clearly and help you figure out the next step. We're always in your corner, and we work closely alongside your medical team to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Absolutely. Feeding a baby is a family experience, and having a partner present means more ears for the information and more hands for the support.
Anyone who is part of your baby's care is welcome.
