There’s no such thing as TMI here. It’s a safe place to ask anything and share your story.
Not Your Mama’s Birth Education is a six-week series built around real talk, real questions, and real preparation. No long lectures. No awkward classroom vibes.
Just honest conversation—the parts people talk about and the parts they don’t.
6-Week Series
Birth Basics
Let’s talk about what actually happens during labor and birth.
We’ll cover things like:
Signs labor is starting & contractions
Breathing techniques and movement
Birth choices and common interventions
How partners and support people can help
The goal: help you feel prepared, flexible, and confident.
“Now I Have a Baby?!”
We’ll talk about:
Healing and recovery after birth
Feeding your baby
Intimacy after baby
Hormones & emotions
Where to find community support
Helpful information and honest conversation.
Community & Confidence
One of the best parts of this class? The people.
Throughout the series you’ll:
Meet other expecting parents
Hear from guest speakers (ex: doulas, craniosacral therapists, pelvic floor PTs, prenatal yoga teachers)
Try hands-on activities and crafts like decorating onesies—it’s a hangout vibe
Because preparing for a baby isn’t just about information. It’s also about feeling supported and not doing this whole thing alone.

✺ Frequently Asked Questions ✺
-
Yes, all services from Berkshire Nursing Families are free.
No strings, no expectations, no commitments. It’s just our mission to support our community.
-
We encourage you to register if you know you can make most of the classes. However, if you know you have one date you can’t make, or if you’re sick, it’s okay to miss one! We will answer any questions on topics you miss.
-
Short answer: no! This class is appropriate for all trimesters. 5 weeks or 34 weeks, you’re going to get something out of this.
BNF serves all of the Berkshires so the next birth education series may not be offered again until after your pregnancy. It’s never too early to join.
-
Absolutely. BNF supports all ways of feeding babies. Our playgroups and services after baby is born are open to all types of feeding, too!
-
This series is designed as a space just for pregnant participants, so partners do not attend the regular weekly sessions. This helps keep the group small and creates a comfortable environment for open conversation, questions, and connection.
Partners and support people are warmly invited to join the final class, where we’ll bring everyone together to talk about ways they can support you during labor, birth, and the early days with a newborn.
That way, you get time to learn, reflect, and build confidence—and your partner still gets the key information they need to show up for you when it matters most.
-
Birth can feel big, unknown, and a little intimidating. You are not the only one who feels that way.
This class isn’t about scaring you with dramatic stories or overwhelming information. It’s about understanding what’s happening in your body, learning your options, and building confidence one step at a time.
We keep the conversations honest, supportive, and pressure-free. You’re always welcome to listen quietly, ask questions, or share only what feels comfortable for you.
Many people find that learning about birth in a calm, supportive space actually makes it feel less scary and more manageable.
And there will still be laughter, crafts, movement, and plenty of moments to take a breath. You don’t have to be fearless to come—you just have to be curious.
