Prenatal Visits

We are available to meet with you during pregnancy to answer any of your questions and help you become prepared to feed your baby. We can help you develop an individualized feeding plan to ensure that you have the knowledge, tools, and support you need prior to your baby’s arrival.

This can look like:

  • Identifying any risk factors for feeding complications you may have and helping you to proactively develop a plan to overcome any barriers.

  • Answering your questions and making sure you are informed about resources in advance.

  • Introducing you to how a pump works, showing you different bottles, supplies, etc.

  • Of if you know you do not want to lactate or will not be able to lactate, we can also prepare a plan with you to help you stop lactating comfortably and as safely as possible after birth.

Lactation Consultations

We can provide you lactation consultations in your home, at our clinic, curbside, and/or virtually. No home in Berkshire County is “too far” or “too rural” for us to come to you. For Northern Berkshire Pediatric patients, we are also available to meet you at one of their office locations.

Infant Feeding Classes

We offer individual or group classes both in-person or virtually.

Topics cover a wide range of subjects including:

  • the benefits of feeding human milk

  • how the breast functions

  • how to feed successfully at the breast or through exclusive pumping

  • proper positioning for attachment

  • how much milk is enough or if supplementation is needed

  • as well as time to ask questions about work and feeding, pumping, troubleshooting, and other individual concerns

Pre & Post Feeding Weight Checks

Our lactation professionals have specialized infant scales for extremely precise weight checks. These scales can also be borrowed for 24 hour at-home weight monitoring. Having access to these scales helps monitor the amount of milk being transferred during feedings and weight gain.

Play & Support Groups

A variety of play and support groups are offered both virtually and in-person throughout Berkshire County. Come meet other families, get support, build community, have your baby’s weight checked, and learn about resources. All families are welcome! Siblings are welcome. And not nursing? No problem! All forms of feeding are welcome. Please click here for all of our current group offerings.

Developmental Education

There are developmental milestones that your baby will go through that can be tricky times for feeding. To help support you, with your consent, we will preemptively provide you information, tips, and tricks via text during your baby’s growth spurts to help you navigate your baby’s feeding changes as they grow.

Returning to Work

You can work and breastfeed your baby. Preparing to return to work can be stressful and is one of the main reasons parents wean, even if they don’t want to yet. We can help you with pumping, with introducing bottles, with learning how to keep your supply up, and can help you navigate pumping at work - including how to store milk, wash pump parts, etc. It’s a big transition and we’re here to support you through it.

Support for Young Parents

We tailor all of our services to the unique needs of young parents - teens up to the age of 23. Our Teen to 23 (T23) services are coordinated and facilitated by BNF lactation professionals who were young parents themselves and understand first-hand the experience of being a young parent.
